The Demise of Ginbot 7: Rest in Peace (R.I.P.)
Strathink Editorial Team - April 2018 - Last week’s historic transition resulted in the fulfillment of Ginbot 7’s stated mission, which is the realization of a national political system in which government power and political authority is assumed through a peaceful and democratic process based on the free will and choice of citizens of the country. The leaders of Ginbot 7 should now understand that raising an army, no matter how small, and attempting to make change through the barrel of a gun will not work in Ethiopia. That time has passed.

Alibis for trumping on sovereignty
Bereket Gebru 04-19-18 -I miss the old days when sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states meant something. Those were the good days when state actors were treated as equals in the international system. Those were the days of straight talk and action; everyone knew the intent behind everyone else’s actions.

Ethiopia Courts Foreigners for Sugar Plant as Army Sidelined
Ethiopia’s government plans to hire foreign companies to help develop the country’s sugar industry, after canceling a military-industrial conglomerate’s contract on a key project. The state-run Ethiopia Sugar Corp. is looking for a new contractor to develop Tana Beles II in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, which has been hit by protests over the past two years by residents who say they’re being excluded from economic power...
The Ethiopian government must not forget developing local talents and local capacity to manage and develop big projects is a national interest! Developing such capacity will go a long way to sustain growth and improve the livelihood of the people. We understand the challenges are huge but taking the shortcut to building mega projects with foreign companies ignoring the development of local capacity is a sure way to becoming a banana republic. METEC was not created because it was the bastion of talents and know-how gurus. It was created to develop local capacity. If it has failed to develop talents fix the bottlenecks but PM Abiy, you should not be hoodwinked by party politics and destroy the only seed that may help the country to become self-sustained in managing and developing mega projects! PM Abiy, it is a public secret who likes METEC and who does not! Destroying METEC is not in the best interest of Ethiopia!

Eritreans Have a Profound Sense of Their Own History: A Response to Getachew Reda
Petros Tesfagiorgis I do not want to reply to Getachew Red’s article and claims point by point as it is full of fallacies and emotional assertions. Let me explain again what my view is. My article does not suggest peace at all cost. It is peace with justice. It is with the belief that differences that bread hostility and war can be solved on the table through negotiations and consultations.

National Identity and Political Power
Among liberal elites in the West, nationalism’s bad reputation is getting worse. They associate it with white supremacy, the newly restrictive immigration policies of many Western countries, the resurgence of economic protectionism, or the illiberal populism of U.S. President Donald Trump. But nationalism also has a positive side. National identities can encourage ...

Neamin of G 7 with BBC: - Of course no surprises here: It is good to hear that Ato Neamin Zeleke is giving a chance and the benefit of the doubt to the new Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed. How long could this extension of peace last? Time will tell very soon. What is unsettling and mind-boggling in his talk with Hardtalk is his lack of depth in understanding what national interest is. His very naïve political sensibilities of returning of Badme to Eritrea literally have no boundaries at all. Is he advancing Eritrean national interest or Ethiopian? He should have heeded JFK’s words “Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.” Go figure Ginbot 7! Watch, it is an interesting and revealing discussion.
